"Unravelled"

May 3- May 9, 2021

Artist Statement:

Ever since I was a little girl, I would move my room around for best functionality, paint my walls a new color for clarity, try to get my parents to buy me new lamps, chairs, curtains, rugs, etc., for satisfaction, and most importantly I made sure my blankets were fuzzy for comfort. Unraveling bark reminded me of tearing off wallpaper sparking my idea to paint designs on the bark of a birch tree. I walked into the woods with my Dad and cut down six logs each six feet tall since the height is relatable to many people and it’s the distance, we’re supposed to maintain during COVID-19. I organized the trees into three groupings represented by the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue for the wallpaper designs. The items used under the bark are materials typically found in a home and are complementary of the primary color designs on a given tree. Each tree emits a different mood, feeling, and fashion through color, design, material, and natural imperfections.
