Artist Statement:
I find this type of artwork stimulates an important dialogue for people interested in environmental art and for those who aren’t as well. Can they name the natural subject I was inspired by? Are they just looking at an abstract painting? In utilizing organic shapes, graphic lines, and careful brush stokes, I create a style of artwork that is neither completely abstract nor completely photorealistic. This balance between the namable and unnamable creates an experience that forces engagement and critical thinking. The scale and level of detail I choose to use accomplishes this as well.
