Statement:
Lydia Kern reclaims natural, mundane, and ceremonial found materials to create wayfinders for ineffable experiences. Wholly devoted to each object, she creates metaphoric relationships between disparate materials, carefully sewing, wrapping, and sealing everything together into a new meaning. Her sculptures are narrative structures in which emotion, symbology, mysticism, tragedy, and transcendence echo.
