Tectonic Industries

"If you had followed the directive,
you wouldn't be here"

Sept 14 - Oct 13, 2023
Artist Talk: Thursday, Sept 14, 5-6PM Gallery Reception: Thursday, Sept 14, 6-7PM

Statement:

After the initial shock of a new incident, we easily become numb to the endless and repetitious spectacle of both the real and imagined world. Questions around the ethics of the glamorization of terror and survival is particularly relevant to today’s audience where the sharing of information, misinformation, opinions, and judgements is now both instantaneous and never-ending. Added to that is the ubiquitous force of the natural world, and the constant underlying panic of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The installation points to the overarching and yet somehow enigmatic systems which are superimposed onto us and with which we seem to direct both our individual and our collective lives. We envision that a somewhat enigmatic dialogue will take place from the separate sound projections that independently allow the viewer a singular experience if they stand very close to one of the tents, but that they together will create a rather ubiquitous muted humming in the space that speaks of the multitude of vocal inputs that are a constant if not incessant force in our daily lives.

tectonic industries is a collaboration between artists Lars Jerlach and Helen Stringfellow.
