Information

We are open M-F 10-5 or at other times by appointment during the acadmeic year.

The McCarthy Art Gallery is the SMC Art & Design program's primary exhibition space. It is located in the McCarthy Art Center on the campus of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT (map).

Our mission is to use the space as a showcase to connect our students, and the regional community, with current artists and contemporary art & design practices. We encourage visiting artists to use the space for experimentation. We are especially committed to exhibiting work that interacts with local or regional sites and subjects. A majority of our visiting artist exhibitions are by invitation, but we do review unsolicited proposals.

The gallery hosts visiting artist exhibitions by professional contemporary artists every fall and solo exhibitions by our graduating seniors every spring. Our gallery is primarily supported by the Marc and Dana vanderHeyden fund for Fine Arts. Other funding comes from the Fine Arts Department and The McCarthy Fund.

Professor Brian Collier is the Curator & Director of the gallery, a role he has held since 2013. He manages a team of student workers who assist with all gallery operations.

The current gallery team, who also assist with art on campus outside the gallery, is:
Magnolia Sinisi, Lead Gallery Assistant
Gabby Farineau, Gallery Assistant
Nico Allard-Krause, Web and Publicity Assistant
Izzy Kolb, Art on Campus Assistant
