Artist Statement:
It may be hard to explain how exactly these images are supposed to convey what I'm feeling, but we're not working with words here, are we? My hope is that at least someone has the feeling that they 'get it'. There was a lot of decision making about what is worth showing, what people don't really need to see, and so on. The humor of the paintings really develops in that space.
I've looked at the strong surrealist influence in cartoons, including those I grew up with. Then those concepts themselves become subjects that appear in this weird hazy-memory sensation of what I'm interested in painting. I'm interested because it reflects a lot of tiredness and confusion I feel, and I'm glad that the body of working is able to behave itself in front of our guests in putting on a nice face with the facade of humor to it.
